Sproutcall relies on telephone networks provided by third-party carriers. To keep our service affordable, reliable, and available for everyone, we monitor calling patterns and may apply additional charges to accounts that fall outside of normal usage.
Normal usage means making and receiving calls where you intend to have a conversation with the person or business on the other end. Most users will never need to think about this policy.
Outgoing calls are charged per minute. Certain calling patterns put strain on the telephone networks we use and can result in additional costs or penalties from our carriers. Examples include:
We understand that not every call goes as planned — wrong numbers, voicemail, and people not picking up are a normal part of making phone calls. This policy is not about occasional bad luck. It is about sustained patterns over a period of time that are significantly outside what is typical.
If we detect problematic calling patterns on your account, we may apply a temporary surcharge of $0.15 per outgoing call. You will see a notice in the app when a surcharge is active, along with an explanation of why it was applied.
The surcharge is temporary. Once your calling patterns return to normal, the surcharge will be automatically removed.
Receiving calls on your Sproutcall number is included at no extra charge, subject to the following fair use limits:
If you exceed either limit, a monthly surcharge is applied and both limits are lifted for the remainder of that month. The surcharge depends on your number’s country:
The surcharge is applied at most once per month. Your number still supports one concurrent incoming call at a time.
These limits are generous enough for personal and small business use. If you regularly exceed them, the monthly surcharge gives you truly unlimited incoming minutes for that month — no further charges, no matter how many calls you receive.
If problematic usage patterns continue over an extended period despite surcharges being applied, or if we detect usage that is clearly automated, fraudulent, or in violation of our Terms of Service, we may temporarily suspend or permanently close your account. We will attempt to notify you before taking such action, but reserve the right to act immediately if necessary to protect our service or our carriers’ networks.
We do not want to block anyone from making or receiving calls. We know that sometimes legitimate calls can look unusual, and we would rather let you make the call than prevent it. Surcharges exist to discourage patterns that are costly to us and to the networks we rely on, while still allowing you to make and receive every call you need to.
